The fatal collision occurred near Conduit Road shortly before 5:30 p.m., according to the Virginia State Police.
A preliminary investigation by Virginia State Police determined that Nichols was riding a 1998 Honda motorcycle northbound on Interstate 95 at what investigators described as a high rate of speed. Authorities confirmed that Nichols was wearing a helmet at the time of the crash. Officials have not released information regarding whether the occupants of the Ford F-150 or the Mitsubishi Outlander sustained any injuries.
The circumstances surrounding the collision remain under investigation. Virginia State Police continue to examine the events leading up to the crash, including the motorcycle’s attempt to pass on the highway shoulder. No additional details have been released as the investigation remains active.
