Timothy Higgins Obituary, SCHENECTADY, NY — Detective Timothy Higgins, a longtime member of the Schenectady Police Department, passed away during the early hours of July 27, 2026, at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center in New York City following a prolonged battle with cancer. He was 39 years old.
Detective Higgins dedicated nearly 16 years of service to the residents of Schenectady, building a career defined by commitment, compassion, and professionalism. He joined the Schenectady Police Department in 2010 and served in multiple roles throughout his career, including general patrol officer, community police officer in the Woodlawn and Mt. Pleasant neighborhoods, investigator with the Criminal Investigations Unit, and detective with the Youth Aid Bureau.
Throughout his years in law enforcement, Higgins became known among colleagues and community members for his dedication to protecting others and his willingness to support those in need. His work reflected a strong commitment to public service, particularly through his efforts to assist families, mentor young people, and strengthen relationships between police and the community.
