Eric Steven Rominger Obituary, ASHE COUNTY, N.C. — Eric Steven Rominger, 47, of Ashe County, North Carolina, has died following injuries sustained in a single-vehicle rollover crash on Idlewild Road near Worth McNeil Road outside West Jefferson on Monday night.
According to the North Carolina State Highway Patrol, troopers responded to the crash at approximately 10:30 p.m. after a pickup truck left the roadway and overturned. The crash involved only Rominger’s vehicle, and no other vehicles were reported to have been involved.
The preliminary investigation determined that Rominger was traveling northbound on Idlewild Road when his pickup truck traveled off the right side of the roadway. Investigators said the vehicle then crossed the road after the driver overcorrected, left the left side of the roadway, struck an embankment, and overturned multiple times.
During the rollover crash, Rominger was ejected from the pickup truck. Emergency responders arrived at the scene, but he suffered fatal injuries and was pronounced dead.
The North Carolina State Highway Patrol reported that speed was identified as a contributing factor in the crash. Investigators found no evidence that impairment played a role in the collision, and authorities have not released additional information regarding whether Rominger was wearing a seat belt at the time of the crash.
Following the incident, Idlewild Road was closed for approximately one hour while troopers documented the scene and cleared the wreckage. The crash remains under investigation by the North Carolina State Highway Patrol.
