Newton Accident Update — A 43-year-old Pretty Prairie man was killed Tuesday afternoon following a two-vehicle crash on U.S. Highway 50 west of Newton after a dump truck allegedly failed to stop at an intersection, according to the Kansas Highway Patrol.
The fatal collision occurred at approximately 2:20 p.m. Tuesday at the intersection of U.S. Highway 50 and Ridge Road in Harvey County. Authorities said the crash involved a dump truck traveling southbound on Ridge Road and a Cadillac DeVille traveling on U.S. Highway 50.
According to the preliminary investigation by the Kansas Highway Patrol, the dump truck approached the intersection and failed to stop at a posted stop sign before entering the highway. The truck then collided with the Cadillac, causing the vehicle to roll over and come to rest in a nearby ditch.
The driver of the Cadillac was identified as Justin J. Farley, 43, of Pretty Prairie. Farley sustained fatal injuries in the crash and was pronounced dead at the scene, authorities said.
The driver of the dump truck, a 32-year-old man from Augusta, suffered serious injuries in the collision. Emergency responders transported him to Wesley Medical Center in Wichita for treatment. Officials have not released an update on his current condition.
Authorities have not provided additional information regarding whether any other occupants were inside the Cadillac at the time of the crash. The Kansas Highway Patrol continues to investigate the circumstances surrounding the collision.
Officials have not announced whether any citations or additional charges will be issued as the investigation remains ongoing. Investigators are working to determine all contributing factors involved in the crash.
