Mountain Brook Accident Update — A second person has died following a single-vehicle crash in Mountain Brook, Alabama, that claimed the lives of two passengers over the weekend, according to authorities.
The Jefferson County Coroner’s Office identified the latest victim as Ashleigh Belinda Cullars, 20, of Pell City, who died early Tuesday morning after suffering critical injuries in the crash. Cullars had been hospitalized at UAB Hospital following the collision.
Authorities said Cullars died at approximately 1 a.m. Tuesday while receiving treatment for severe injuries sustained in the crash. She was one of four occupants inside the vehicle at the time of the incident.
The first victim was identified as Jacob Deshaan Thompson, 24, of Moody, who was pronounced dead at the scene after the vehicle crashed. Both Thompson and Cullars were passengers in the vehicle involved in the collision.
The crash occurred at approximately 5:15 a.m. Saturday in the 2900 block of Southwood Road in Mountain Brook. Investigators said the vehicle left the roadway and struck a tree.
Officials have not released details about what caused the vehicle to leave the road. The identities and conditions of the driver and the fourth occupant have not been made public.
The Mountain Brook Police Department continues to investigate the circumstances surrounding the deadly crash. Authorities have not confirmed whether speed, impairment, or any other factors contributed to the collision, and no charges have been announced.
