Travis Martin Obituary, WOODBURN, Ore. — Travis Martin, 29, of Aurora, Oregon, has died following injuries sustained in a vehicle collision while riding his bicycle on the Interstate 5 overpass along Newberg Highway in Woodburn on Friday night, July 24.
According to the Woodburn Police Department, officers responded at approximately 9:30 p.m. to reports of a serious crash involving a passenger vehicle and a bicyclist on the I-5 overpass. The collision involved Martin and a vehicle driven by an 18-year-old Salem resident, Jose Quevedo-Vazquez.
Police said the preliminary investigation determined that Quevedo-Vazquez was traveling westbound on Newberg Highway and had moved into the right lane to enter southbound Interstate 5 when the collision occurred. Investigators said Martin entered the roadway from the sidewalk on his bicycle and crossed in front of the approaching vehicle.
Emergency responders arrived at the scene and found Martin suffering from life-threatening injuries. He was transported to a nearby hospital for emergency medical care but later died from injuries sustained in the crash.
The driver of the vehicle was not injured and remained at the scene while cooperating with investigators, according to police. Authorities said preliminary findings do not indicate evidence of criminal activity and that speed or impairment are not believed to have contributed to the collision.
The crash led to a temporary closure of the roadway as officers documented the scene and traffic investigators worked to determine the circumstances surrounding the incident. The Woodburn Fire Department and Woodburn Ambulance Service assisted with the emergency response.
The Woodburn Police Department continues to investigate the fatal collision and is asking anyone who witnessed the crash or has information that may assist investigators to contact the department and reference case number 26-9192.
